In order to have a great protein baking experience there are a few things you MUST ALWAYS have on hand... You'll find them in my Pantry.
Whey Protein- I use whey from Protein Factory Its cheap and clean, It is produced from the milk of grass-fed cows with no hormones. The price can't be beat, the taste is great and for baking its perfect! Another Protein brand I really love but is a bit more pricey is TryAboutTime
Egg Protein/
Soy Protein- I have not experimented with these much yet but when I do I will gladly share my opinions!
Oatmeal- One of the most, amazing tasting grains loaded with health benefits. I mostly use this in the flour form, click for more information on homemade oat flour!
Flax Seed- Omega-Omega-Omega! 1 TBSP goes a long way for health! I like to buy whole seeds and grind as needed. Read more health benefits here!
Qunioa-(Keen Wa)- One of the most healthy grains available that it is high in protein, fiber, and magnesium, manganese and copper. It contains all 9 essential amino acids (proteins) necessary for muscle and bone development and repair. I cook with this REGULARLY! Its a great add in to Protein Bars! I buy Bob's Red Mill Quinoa
Almond Flour- I love this addition to baking, it gives a nice texture and wonderful almond flavor. I usually buy it from Trader Joes but you can make your own as well. Check it out!
Coconut Flour- LOVE LOVE coconut flour! Its Gluten free, and has an semi-sweet coco-nutty and unique flavor that makes baked goods taste incredible! I usually buy Bob's Red Mill when I run out and need it now. I purchase from Tropical Traditions, the price can't be beat! I also get coconut shreds here!
100% Cocoa Powder- when it comes to cocoa powder you want to make sure not to but Dutch Processed powder because it uses acids to neutralize the flavor, Alkali, which removes the antioxidants and flavanoids that we want from cocoa. make sure to buy 100% natural processed cocoa powder. Ghiradelli lover here!
Dark Baking Chocolate(70% or more)- For health benefits and flavor of course! Also this high of a percentage will have far less sugar in it already!
Coconut Shreds- My Love! I Love Love Love coconut! With the shreds you can make more than you think. Coconut is loaded with goodnes
Nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts, hazelnut)- All Nuts are great and come in hand! I use a WIDE variety! Its a nice source of healthy fats and protein.
Cinnamon- I DO NOT leave home on a trip without it! its SO good in everything and good for you! Helps to control blood sugar, reduces clotting in blood, stimulates the brain, increases heart health and kills problematic fungus like Canadida.
Extracts (vanilla, coconut, almond)-They flavor EVERYTHING! Learn to make homemade extracts or buy your favorite type. I began making my own since I have a garden and it turns out much cheaper!
PB2- The most amazing thing invented since the discovery of Peanut Butter! Check it out! Its basically dried peanut butter with all the oils pressed out, kind of like cocoa powder but for peanuts! Works wonderfully in baking!
Natural Peanut Butter- NO added oils, sugar, or words you can't read. Straight up ground Peanuts!
Virgin Coconut Oil- Coconut oils can be tricky to figure out whats best but I buy USDA Organic Virgin Coconut oil from Tropical Traditions. Click Here to read about the differences and you can make your choice for your needs and wallet.
Olive Oil-
Honey or Agave syrup-These are great alternative sugar substitutes that give great flavor as well! Honey is also very good for our bodies and I like things that my body likes!
Eggs-
Unsweetened Almond Milk(Vanilla)- There are a ton of different brands out there and the tastes do differ, I usually buy the Trader Joe brand but I also really like Silk. Its Non-GMO and the taste is great. Most important thing here is that its UNSWEETENED! You can also make your own which make GREAT coffee creamer and the left over almonds becomes Almond Flour.
Unsweetened Coconut Milk-There are a ton of different brands out there and the tastes do differ. I usually buy the Trader Joe brand but So Delicious Coconut milk is another favorite brand. Again its because its Non-GMO and organic but I have a harder time finding this one in stores.
You can also make your own which make GREAT coffee creamer and the left over coconut becomes Coconut Flour.
I ALWAYS turn to Trader Joe products if I can't find what I need. I also drive 1 hour to go shopping at TJ because they swear that *All Products In The Trader Joe's Label Promise: NO artificial flavors,
colors or preservatives. NO MSG. NO genetically modified ingredients. NO
added Trans Fats
- Now that's up my alley!
Now these are the basics, truly I have more than just this in my pantry, but with this you''ll be able to make most of my yummy creations!
